Peter's "Song"

For each of my children, I have picked an old hymn that I sing to them each day. Each hymn has pieces of Gospel truth that I hope they will cling to and remember throughout their whole life.

For my Peter Josiah I sing Nothing but the Blood.

What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Oh Precious is the flow,
that makes me white as snow.
No other fount I know,
nothing but the blood of Jesus.

I want Peter to know that he was created for the purpose of glorifying God and enjoying Him forever. I want him to know that no one can accomplish this without the blood of Jesus.

For my pardon this I see:  Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
For my cleansing this my plea:
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Oh Precious is the flow,
that makes me white as snow.
No other fount I know,
nothing but the blood of Jesus.

I want Peter to know that he needs to be cleansed and pardoned. I want him to know that he is a sinner but there is hope in the blood of Jesus.

Nothing can for sin atone.
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Not the good that I have done.
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

No other fount I know,
nothing but the blood of Jesus.

I desperately want Peter to know that absolutely nothing can 'fix' the sin in his life except the blood of Jesus. There is no good thing he can do to even the score. Only the blood of Jesus will atone.

This is all my hope and peace:

This is all my righteousness:
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

I pray Peter will know that even in his sinful state, God sent his perfect, holy, and righteous Son Jesus to live a righteous life and die an undeserving death on the cross in our place. Jesus was righteous for us because we are not righteous and have no hope of being righteous without Him. How sweet is the name of Jesus! How much peace and hope can be found there! The depths of peace and hope are limitless in Christ.

I pray that I would be reminded of these truths also every time I sing this song with Peter. And I pray that you would know these truths also.
